Squeeze the block

In this exercise with one yoga block you’ll explore one-legged Down Dog with simultaneously activity of knee flexion and hip extension. A great way to increase strength in the back of the leg.

Begin in a four-point kneeling position and pivot to the side for a side plank. Here you can use one hand to attach the block somewhere between the heel and back of the leg/hip/thigh. If you don’t have a yoga block explore with other similar objects. Once you have the block attached you return to the starting position. Maintain the block by the isometric contraction.

In the video I demonstrate from the side and behind.

  1. Table top + one-legged lift with hip extension and knee flexion

  2. As above + lower/lift knee from the ground

  3. Larger ROM to Down Dog and increased knee extension (closed chain leg/limb on the ground)
